Ruth Jackson is an accredited Registered Intermediary for the Ministry of Justice. Having trained in 2008 and facilitated communication in over 200 cases, Ruth is one of the most experienced Registered Intermediaries in the country. In this role she advises about communication with vulnerable witnesses at court and during police interviews. She has facilitated at Magistrates and Crown Court and regularly works with police officers during ABE interviews.
Due to Ruth’s depth of experience she is a mentor for new Registered Intermediaries and has also sat on the interview panel for new RI’s.
Ruth was asked to write part of the ABE training course for Norfolk and Suffolk police. In addition Ruth has presented at conferences and trained other regional police forces.
Ruth is a specialist Speech and Language Therapist registered with the Health Professions Council and Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists. She obtained an MSc in 2002 from UCL and works with people with communication needs including autism, developmental delay and learning difficulties.
A retired Detective Sergeant who is a specialist in child abuse investigations with 15 years experience dealing with crimes against vulnerable people. Alison has an in-depth knowledge in ABE interviewing as a practitioner and supervisor. In the last 2 years of service with Norfolk Constabulary Alison developed and delivered ABE refresher training, worked with Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) to support safeguarding information gathering and wrote an ABE aide memoire with an associated practitioners workbook. All of which has been put into practice.
Alison believes that ABELS will deliver wholesale change into the approach professional take when communicating with children who are victims or witnesses of crime. Alison extends her thanks to Norfolk’s Chief Constable Simon Bailey who supported the development of ABELS.
In her spare time Alison is studying for an MSc in Child Forensic Studies. Alison is married and has 2 grown up children. For pleasure she enjoys gardening, reading, red wine and walking her Labradors Hector and Winnie.
